Summary CV

Research Interests

Alex Mesker teaches material based in music & multimedia, and electronic & computer music. He recently completed his Masters (Research) degree focussing on algorithmic composition and generative processes in contemporary electronic music. He is also a music technician for the DCMS.

Principal Creative Works

Alex is interested in generative rhythm creation and sample playback manipulation and has created various musical applications to these ends. He also has created control oriented programs that take data from video input and other forms of tactile and gestural forms, which are then mapped to musical and control based output.


Research in-progress

He recently completed a Masters (Research) degree focussing on creative practices of selected electronic musicians, covering algorithmic and generative compositional techniques and digital signal processing.

Current Teaching

Alex teaches MUS 302: Image, Sound and Interactive Media, convenes MUS 311: Mixing and DJ-ing and guest lectures in various units on topics such as compositional techniques in electronic music, Max/MSP/Jitter, music production, MIDI sequencing and drum programming, digital art and culture jamming.
