This course begins a student's involvement with the sequencing program Cubase and uses their own creativity to produce two MIDI compositions (one individual and one group composition). Students begin to study, conceptualise and use Cubase creatively to expand their knowledge of the program. MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) and audio-engineering related notions are taught, expanded on in tutorials and implemented in tutorial exercises to provide the students with a firm foundation for later audio an production subjects (MUS202 is a pre-exquiste for 200 and 300 level audio production subjects).

This unit revolves around the creation of compositions involving MIDI and exploring all of Cubase's technical avenues. Lectures will discuss ideas related to the recording process and Cubase. In tutorials, with the help of 25 Mac G5's and attached MIDI keyboards, students will have plenty of room to explore Cubase, MIDI and their own creativity.
